چکیده

The emerging area of intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) research has shown rapid development in recent years and offers a great number of research challenges for artificial intelligence. For both military and civil applications, there is a desire to develop more sophisticated UAV platforms where the emphasis is placed on development of intelligent capabilities. Imagine a mission scenario where a UAV is supplied with a 3D model of a region containing buildings and road structures and is instructed to fly to an arbitrary number of building structures and collect video streams of each of the building’s respective facades. In this article, we describe a fully operational UAV platform which can achieve such missions autonomously. We focus on the path planner integrated with the platform which can generate collision free paths autonomously during such missions. It is based on the use of probabilistic roadmaps. The path planner has been tested together with the UAV platform in an urban environment used for UAV experimentation.

Smoothed Hex-grid Trajectory Planning using Helicopter Dynamics

Considering Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles (UAVs) the planning tasks mainly consist of finding paths between given waypoints with respect to given constraints. In this paper we developed a path planning system for flying UAVs (VTOLs and CTOLs) built upon Hexagonal grids which also supports simple dynamics (handling with speed). The planning system is additionally supported by a trajectory smoothi...

Multi-Query Path Planning for Exploration Tasks with an Unmanned Rotorcraft

This paper presents an online multi-query path planner for exploration tasks planned onboard an unmanned helicopter. While the desirable properties of roadmaps can be exploited in o ine path planning, the dynamic nature of exploration scenarios hinders to utilize conventional roadmap planners. Hence, the presented path planning approach utilizes a deterministically sampled roadmap which is dyna...

Helicopter Path Planning using Probabilistic Roadmaps

Probabilistic roadmap algorithms work in two stages. In the first, by randomly choosing collision free configurations of a robot and then attempting to connect these, a graph is created which represents the free space of the robot’s environment. This graph can then be used to answer path planning queries during runtime. In this report I describe an adaptation of this algorithm to the domain of ...

Aiaa 2000-4056 Real-time Motion Planning for Agile Autonomous Vehicles

The operation of an autonomous vehicle in an unknown, dynamic environment i s a v ery complex problem, especially when the vehicle is required to use its full maneuvering capabilities, and to react in real time to changes in the operational environment. A new class of algorithms, based on the construction of probabilistic roadmaps, has been recently introduced, and proven to provide a very fast...
